Just That Kind Of Summer

I have come to the conclusion that it's just going to be a slow sales season on eBay. That was hard for me to come to terms with, but I would rather realize/admit that than frustrate myself by being disappointed in my sales day after day after day. Instead, I am trying to view this slow season as a little bit of a break from the hustle and bustle that my eBay business has been over the last several months. I will use this time to focus on sourcing inventory, listing as much as possible, and organizing my store. I have gotten back into ending about-to-renew listings and relisting them using Sell Similar. That seems to breathe new life into old inventory.

Also, I have my building coming in the next couple weeks. All the moving that that will require will take TONS of time! We still need to prep the site where it's going to go (needs to be leveled and have gravel put down). We need to run electricity to it and install an air conditioner. Then of course comes the big move. I have a LOT of stuff to move! I am keeping an eye out for storage racks. I have a few but I'll need more. A slower selling season is nice for that, because I will have plenty of time to get it set up just the way I want before the Christmas selling season kicks in.

Once I've moved my stuff into my building, then comes the crazy interior work. I'll be redecorating the former eBay room (paint, baseboard trim, who knows what else) and moving my oldest daughter in there. Once she's out of the room she currently shares with her little sister, I'll redo THAT room and move the 5 year old girl and 3 1/2 year old boy into it. Once the boy is out of the room HE shares with his older brother, I'll redo THAT room for the 9 year old boy. I'm hoping we can get all of that done this summer, before school starts back up again.

So you see, sometimes it's helpful to have a slow sales period. At least that's what I am telling myself so that I don't sulk. :)

  1. Good grief - you'll be busy! UK sales have dropped the last few days due to the Queen's Jubilee (I don't begrudge her that :) but I am hoping things will pick up this week and at the weekend.

  2. I think it's great that you are putting a positive spin on it. You have so much coming up. You will need extra time in order not to go crazy with it all.

  5. you need to be aware that ebay search has malfunctioned last sept. since then they have been relying on google search to pick up the slack. they have tried to repair their search of the past few months and it has only made the problem worse. ITEMS ARE NOT SHOWING UP IN SEARCH RESULTS. that is what we pay ebay for. part of it is the economy, media isnt tell the truth. but also they tried to replace their old search with a new one. it didnt work out. started multiple problems. if you are a top rated seller i bet a million bucks if you stop will all the b.s. they want you to do in order to keep your top rated seller status that you will still have it. they had to "fix" it to the user name as part of this problem. ive tried it past 2 months i havent done anything that would have kept my top rated seller status and its still there. my sales have dropped 80% since april. i was on the phone with them for 30 mins this morning after about 15 mins of grillin the guy "nick" he admitted that other sellers are calling in saying the same thing.(first 15 mins he kept telling me he has heard of no such issue) they are trained to give an automated response. call and tell them you know all about "Cassini" their new malfunctioning search engine. THE SHIP IS SINKING IS IT TIME TO GET OFF????

  7. oh and also google figured out what ebay is doing and will be charging ebay users who still want that traffic from google. look it up! they just recently made the announcement. what i believe this mean is that its about to get even slower on ebay because their search is still not fixed. i pray that im wrong but normally research doenst lie.

Other online retailers, such as Amazon and eBay, will likely be affected by Google’s changes because these sites currently receive a lot of free traffic from Google Product Search.
